Department B.S. in Mechanical Science and Engineering, 2019
BS in Mechanial Science and Engineering, minor in Computer Science
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Class of 2019
Kevin lived in three states before he turned two, but settled down in the Washington DC area through through high school. He loves design and ideation processes and learning new skills, including programming, CADing, and fabrication. He has specific interests in rapid prototyping of all varieties, robotics, and development of electro-mechanical projects, which led him to study Mechanical Science and Engineering (MechSE) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Chamapaign (UIUC) and minor in computer science. Kevin is involved in SAE Baja club, vice president and instructor for a swing dance club, a member of the student leadership and head technician of the UIUC Innovation Studio (the MechSE Makerspace), an active member of Pi Tau Sigma, and involved in scouting.
Kevin is developing a flight avionics package for the BAM lab’s ornithopter. The goal of his project is to take in flight data to better understand flapping wing flight. To this end, position, velocity, and acceleration data is taken in parallel with encoder readings, power consumption values, wing angle, motor RPM, altitude, gyroscopic readings and looged onto a removable data storage. This system is designed to be modular and allow for more sensing abilities to be easily added.
