BS in Aerospace Engineering
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Class of 2019

Rachit was born and raised in India. He is currently on track to graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a BS in Aerospace Engineering. Rachit grew up dreaming to become a Indian Air Force fighter pilot and make his way to becoming an Astronaut. His dream job drove him towards developing a passion for Physics during his high school career and then Aerospace Engineering for his college degree. He is also very passionate about Tennis and has pursued it at a competitive level for the past 15 years.

Rachit is currently working on multiple facets of the click beetle project, mostly involving himself with the take-off and airborne stages of the beetle’s jump. Over the past summer, he worked on the post-processing of click beetle jump videos acquired via high speed cameras in an attempt to further analyze and understand the initial conditions and the ballistic parameters of the jumping motion through digital signal processing on MATLab. He also worked on designing and manufacturing an electromagnetic launcher mechanism to simulate the take-off stage of the beetle in a consistent and repeatable manner provided the initial conditions remain constant.
